aand here's this week's page. this one's #69 according to my actual file count. nice
i've been trying something new art-wise.. doing digital sketches and then printing them out to work on top of for the traditional inks. digital > traditional > digital again is a little counterintuitive, but i think it works? i'm curious if you can actually see the difference looking at the page..
So holy shit I finally got around to reading this and wish I had started a lot sooner
Your lineart and coloring are masterfully expressive, like the amount of feeling you are able to convey in a lot of your silent panels is really stunning. The colors particularly are so evocative of not only this period in time but the geographic location of the American southwest as well, just these rich dark saturated bold colors, and the style in general feels like a mid-90s zine. I love how quickly you cut to the chase and the pacing of the plot is perfect, doesn't overwhelm the reader with too much at once but never lags either- like I didn't comment on individual pages because I just kept wanting to click to see the next one. Terrific setup at the beginning, I'm looking forward to seeing where the daughter fits into the narrative later. You really pack a lot of subtlety into every page and it's great. Really appealing character designs too, like you can tell each of these people have Been Through Some Shit even ignoring the literal scars on some of them.
I'm so on board with this and looking forward to where things are going to go!!
thank you for such a thought-out comment, i'm very glad you're enjoying it so far! particularly the pacing- one of those things about webcomics is that you gotta balance the pacing for the story as a whole with the way it holds up for people reading page-a-week as it goes up, so i'm always relieved to hear it's been working well so far. i'm real happy to hear the colors do their job as well- it's been kind of an experiment, seeing how much i can evoke with visuals without actually going too far into things like geographic details, haha. truth be told i haven't lived in the states for a good few years now, so honestly i gotta say it's reassuring to hear i've still managed to get the feel down..
thank you for reading so far and i hope you enjoy where the story goes! with the update speed i sometimes feel like i say i'm "getting to the good stuff" every other week, but i do genuinely hope to jump back into the more, well, plot-heavy bits soon. :D
oh they are both so awkward god bless (i love alans little smile in panel 7)
i havent commented before and when im able to i WILL write a well thought out and enthusiastic comment about how much i love this comic and how much it has inspired me BUT.. for now.. just know.. your work is AMAZING and every update makes my week!!!!!!!!!!
